“I think, therefore I am.”

This famous quote by René Descartes is often cited as a cornerstone of Western philosophy. But what lessons can we take from this great thinker when it comes to delivering projects?

Here are three things that Descartes can teach us about creating a workflow that works for us:

#1 Question everything

Descartes famously began his journey of philosophical discovery by doubting everything that he knew.

In the same way, we should constantly be questioning our assumptions and preconceptions about how things should be done. We will only find new and better ways of doing things by constantly challenging ourselves.

Always start with an open mindset. Taking a step back from the regular mundane day-to-day tasks, we can truly understand the ultimate outcomes of the project without having any preconceived notions or expectations.

This allows our minds to be open to learning new concepts, and as leaders, we can use this approach to ensure we stay within scope and identify and plan for any potential risks in the future.
