I think the problem with solar - if you are looking for a 100% solar solution - is that you need a lot of land. For example, I have seen estimates that you would need to cover the whole of Surrey to generate all the energy needed for the UK. Plus, we still do see intermitacy issues. We need a reliable clean energy source, a minimum 30% in the UK with the rest from renewable sources - only nuclear energy can provide this.
