The Aussies are really positive about Nuclear Energy

And 3 other surprises during my recent visit

I have recently returned from 21 days in Australia, in which several things really jumped out at me during my journey:

  1. Australians talk in time, not distance
  2. Australians talk about the weather more than us Brits
  3. Australians respect their surroundings and environment, and
  4. Australians are very positive about nuclear energy

Time over Distance

The first thing I noticed while travelling around Australia was that they talk in terms of time, not distance.

Instead of saying, ‘it’s 5km away’, they would say, ‘it’s a 15-minute drive away’. This was strange to me initially, but it quickly made sense because there are such wide open spaces and long drives between cities and towns.

400km is difficult to imagine, whereas a 5-hour drive makes complete sense.
